This project reimagines the common desk tape dispenser by focusing on a fundamental user experience often taken for granted: the act of tearing the tape.
Traditional dispensers rely on a serrated metal blade, which becomes blunt over time. This wear necessitates increased force in a small, precarious area, significantly raising the risk of finger injuries.
The solution is a complete redesign of the interaction itself. Instead of a downward push onto a blade, this dispenser guides the user to tear the tape with a diagonal upward or downward force. This motion creates a clean, controlled hairline tear along the tape's edge. By changing the ergonomics, the design eliminates the dependency on a sharp blade, offering a consistently safe, intuitive, and effortless experience that improves with use rather than deteriorating.
